Artists - witnesses who reflected genocide in their works

Artist Bakhruz Kangarli (1892-1922), the first professional Azerbaijani painter, is a graduate of Tiflis art school. B.Kangarli was an eyewitness of the unprecedented genocide that was committed against the Azerbaijani population in 1918-1920, and portrayed scenes in a number of his paintings in 1920-1922s. The artist has tried to show in the images of exhausted and tortured children all the horrors that those Azerbaijani people have witnessed as a result of genocide.

Azim Azimzade (1880-1943), Azerbaijani painter and graphic artist, People’s Artist of Azerbaijan SSR (1927). A.Azimzadeh was an eyewitness of the genocide that was committed against the Azerbaijani population 1918-1920. Special attention in multifaceted creativity of the artist is paid to works showing suffering of Azerbaijani people during genocide of the early 20th century.
